Description of Porcelain Pitcher with Black Slip Decoration 21-323
This elegant porcelain pitcher was wheel-thrown and the rim altered by rolling over the top of the clay onto itself during the throwing process to form a thicker, hollow rim. The interior is glazed with Steel Blue Celadon, while the exterior was decorated with a black slip design. The decoration is spare, bowing to the pristine whiteness of the form for effect. The salt during firing bound to the porcelain clay body nicely, forming the shiny, almost orange peel texture on the surface. Salt fired to Cone Ten (2345 degrees F).
