Description of Folly

This piece represents a Folly. Follies are non-functional architectural structures that were popular in the 19th century, particularly in England. They were used as decorative elements in gardens, etc. It seems having a “ruin” in your garden was quite popular then!

In keeping with the “F” Word theme, note that the Gods on the pediment have been replaced by Felines, and that a Feline has taken advantage of a toppled column for its perch!
