The “F” Words–Form, Function & Flux

by Deborah Britt in News and Upcoming Events

I haven’t posted in a while.  I’ve been crazy busy in the studio, preparing for The

“F” Words—Form, Function & Flux exhibit presented by our ceramic group, POWR (Potters of the Wind Rivers).   There will be nine artists presenting, and the work ranges from raku to wood fire, salt fire, and electric.  Our group has been working on this for the past 18 months, and we are EXTREMELY excited to see it all come to fruition.  The parameters for the work were broad, but the idea was that we exhibit our abilities to create sculptural as well as functional work.  The kicker is that every piece as to have something to do with the letter “F”.  Here are a few photos of my work for the show, some finished, some in process.

Flower Brick–one of the functional pieces.

Thanks to Suzanne Stephenson’s video on architectural ceramics, I built this tool to help me make the columns for “Folly”,  my fake temple ruin.

This lovely feline will be gracing the tops of one of the columns in “Folly”.

The lovely feline studio assistant, Sasha, atop an earlier sculpture not meant for the F Word show, but her favorite place to take a break

The lovely feline Sasha rolling in the bisqued beads meant for  “The Falls”.  She only broke three–a record for her!

The show opens on Friday, Sept. 20 from 6 to 8 pm at Lander Art Center and runs through October 26.  If you are in the neighborhood, I would love to see you!

I have some new work from the recent firings, and as soon as the dust settles, I will post them to the site, so stay tuned!
